Describe Yourself:
http://www.stripsinc.ca
Strips became a reality from to lifelong love of wood, water and the magnificent beauty of cedar strip kayaks, rowboats and canoes.
Living in a west coast rainforest the founder had relatively easy access to an enormous renewable resource virtually at his doorstep. Some internet research, emailing and telephone calling pointed to a need for a steadly supply of raw material and finished strips. The market made up of hobbiest boat builders, kit packagers and marketers and commercial boat building companies throughout the region and the world.
Over a period of 3 months, strips arranged a source of raw material that will be able to meet the immediate and long term demand.
The logs used for the strips are harvested from sustainable forest reserves along the 1000 mile coast line of British Columbia.
Ecological Responsibility The logs used for Strips Inc products are harvested from managed forest reserves. The reserves are moving towards a certified sustainability status if not already there. Much of the material comes from windfall logs discovered in ancient forest reserves which are being culled and cleaned to enhance the growth of remaining strong high potential trees in the lot.
The value added characteristics of Srtips Inc's finished products are such that it takes very little raw material to produce a canoe or kayak in comparison with other wood use applications. The average cedar strip kayak for example requires less than 50 board feet of material or about 50 lineal feet of 1" thick x 12" wide lumber.
